Competitions registration - Car preparation/assembly
07/03/2013

No vacation for our team members this year. Summer 2013 will be a very busy period for UoP Racing Team. The fully electric UoP4e car will compete in some of the most difficult competitions in Europe. Our team has successfully registered for both Formula Student Electric (FSE Germany) 2013 [car #E86] and Formula SAE Italy & Formula Electric Italy (Class 1E) 2013 [car #686].

While the first reports have been already submitted, the team is putting the final touches to the UoP4e and gearing up for an extensive testing period. Being able to have such a long testing and training period, the team will have the much needed time to get familiar with the electrical tractive system of the car and optimize the driving strategy for taking the most out of our the car’s potential. This makes the 2013 season to seem more promising than ever.

We would like to thank our sponsors for their continue support that enable us to target for the best results in the team history so far.

Formula Electric Italy 2012 withdrawal
20/09/2012

In 2011 our team made a very brave decision: to design and manufacture UoP4e, an electric formula student car in one year. The target was to have the car ready and tested by September 2012 in order to participate in Formula Electric Italy competition which was due to be held 14th-17th of September 2012.

From the very begining the team realized it would be very challenging to achieve our goal, since we faced many obstacles in designing and especially in manufacturing an e-car. These problems, along with various delays from electrical components suppliers and shortage of some special parts made the target impossible to reach. As a result, UoPRacing didn’t participate in Formula Electric Italy 2012.

Nevertheless, we have managed to bring the car to a near completion level and this fact makes 2013 a very promising year for the team. Having it ready by the first days of the next year, we will have the time to test the car and get to know it, gaining important knowledge and experience for all its systems and improving them.

We would like to thank every single person and company supported as that difficult year and promise that we are going to give our best to achieve our goals next season.

UoP Racing Team goes electric!!!
01/02/2012

We are happy to announce some great news: We go "green"!!! We are going to built an all-electric vehicle, designed to be the highest performance UoP Racing Team's  car so far - yet electric. Our target is to prove that electric FSAE cars can be very exciting too, considering the fact that they are now as fast, if not faster, than the petrol cars as the technology catches up. We believe that there is an ongoing green revolution, even in automobile racing, and we are glad to be a part of that effort.

We have successfully registered for the Formula SAE Italy 2012 competition in class 1E and we are participating with UoP4e, a car designed with realistic targets, keeping in mind the difficulties an  inexperienced team like ours could face building such a car. Due to the limited resources available, straightforward solutions were chosen for many parts of the vehicle. Some quick specs:
  • Carbon fiber monocoque chassis
  • Low weight estimation (aprox. 200kg)
  • Pure electric drivetrain
  • Lithium Polymer battery pack with Battery Management System
  • Regenerative braking system
  • Advanced Traction Control system unit
Take a glance at the following teaser photo of UoP4e...

Busy months December & January
27/01/2012

The past two months were way too long for UoP Racing Team. A lot of hard work was done: A complete CAD design for almost every single part of the car is ready by now and only some minor changes are going to be made (if needed) until the final design of UoP4. Additionally, plenty of experiments about carbon fiber chassis' integrity and stiffness were made (the results taken where close to the estimated values, verifying our FEAnalysis models). Plus, many parts were purchased and we are now waiting for them to arrive to our workshop.

During that period, many team members were in contact with some major companies in Europe and worldwide in order to gain their support for our project. That's the reason why we now have in our racing family brands like Sony Greece, RedBull Greece, 3DConnexion, Eurocarbon and more to be announced soon. We would like to thank them for all these great stuff they offered us and we hope to continue cooperating with all of them.

Stay tuned with team's progress via our official Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Busy month October
16/11/2011

The return to the shop after the P.I.C.K. event was followed by a whole-car disassembly process. Every single part of the car was taken apart, cleaned out well and (the most important part of the process) weighed, in order to document everything and continue with the design of our new vehicle focusing on further reducing the weight where possible. The car was quickly re-assembled and ready for winter testing of 2012's parts.

New Members Recruitment Day were also scheduled, including a car show event in campus, so as to attract new members from every faculty of the University of Patras.  Everyone was impressed from the technical details of UoP3Evo and the know-how of the team. At the end, the event was a big success and the team will handle the 2012 build with more members than ever!

The weekly team meetings continue and the final decisions for the 2012 concept are about to be taken. Stay connected with team's progress via our official Facebook and Twitter accounts.
