He owns a Diploma (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute, “GH. ASACHI” of Iasi, Romania and a PhD in Engineering of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, University of Patras.  Among others, he worked as Senior Researcher at the Institute of Industrial Systems (ISI) from 2002 to 2005, as Lecturer from 2005 to 2010 and as Assistant Professor from 2010 to 2015 in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics at the University of Patras, Greece.  He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from October 2015 to present.  He is teaching the following undergraduate courses: Manufacturing Systems Theory and Practice I and II, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), and Introduction to Manufacturing Systems.  In addition, he is teaching the following postgraduate courses: Advanced Manufacturing Processes, Advanced Topics on Manufacturing Systems, and Advanced Topics on Machine Tools and Automation.  His main research interests are focused on the field of: Manufacturing Systems Planning, Control, and Networking, Design of Manufacturing Systems and Networks, Flexibility and Complexity in Manufacturing Systems.  Recently, his research work has been awarded with the Burbidge Best Paper Award at APMS 2012 (International Conference on Advances in Production Management Systems) sponsored by IFIP.  He speaks fluently English and Romanian.

He is a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), a member of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) - TC5.2 - Manufacturing Modelling for Management and Control since 2005, an Education Liaison of IFAC TC5.2, the coordinator of the Greek Manufuture Network - GMN, the representative of GMN to the Manufuture National-Regional Technology Platform Group (NRTP), and member in IFIP WG 5.7 Advances in Production Management.  He is a member of the European Factories of the Future Association - EFFRA and a member of the European Manufacturing and Innovation Research Association - EMIRACLE.  He is a member of the European Aeronautics Science Network Association EASN, a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), and of the Technical Chamber of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.

He is a reviewer for nineteen (19) International Journals and a large number of International Conferences, and guest editor in two (2) international scientific journals.  He has organized and chaired nine (9) international scientific conferences and has been a member of international organising and programme committees fifty-three (53) times.  He has been involved in more than sixteen (16) RTD projects funded by the EC, acting as Senior Researcher, Project and Technical Manager, contributing to the manufacturing research and technological advancement in national and international level.  Indicative EC funded projects that have been carried out include: RIDER, BEP-IFM, SYRIOS, MyCAR, e-CUSTOM (twice appointed as a success story among FP7 FoF RTD Projects), Apps4aME, CAPP4SMEs, DIVERSITY, ProRegio and ICP4Life (H2020 - FoF).

He has given more than forty (40) scientific presentations and invited keynote talks in international workshops organised by the EC, in CIRP General Assembly Meetings (to the Scientific Technical Committees of Optimisation, Design and Assembly), and in international scientific conferences.  He has been invited as a manufacturing field expert in several projects such as; ActionPlanT (2011) and TAMS4CPS (2015).

He has supervised forty-one (41) Diploma Thesis in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics of the University of Patras, many of which were conducted in cooperation with industries and in topics relevant to the design, planning, and operation of manufacturing systems and networks.  He is currently acting as supervisor in the committees of seven (7) PhD Thesis dissertations.  He has been a member of a PhD Three Member Supervisory Committee eleven (11) times (4 concluded, 2 concluding soon and 5 in progress), and of a PhD Seven Member Enquiry Committee ten (10) times (10 concluded).

He has more than one hundred and thirty five (135) publications (fifty (50) publications in international refereed scientific journals, three (3) publications in Greek refereed scientific journals, sixteen (16) chapters in books, four (4) editorials, one (1) white paper, and sixty-one (61) publications in conference proceedings with review in the full paper.  The acknowledgment of his scientific work by the international scientific community amounts to a total number of unique citations of more than one thousand and one hundred (1.100), for a total of eighty-three (83) publications (based on Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge, and Google Scholar citation indices).  His profile including information regarding his research and publication record is also available in the following scientific databases: i) Google Scholar, ii) Scopus, and iii) Research Gate.
