Biographic NotesHe owns a Diploma (M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute, “GH. ASACHI” of Iasi, Romania and a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, University of Patras. Among others, he worked as Senior Researcher at the Institute of Industrial Systems (ISI) from 2002 to 2005, as Lecturer from 2005 to 2010 and as Assistant Professor from 2010 to 2015 in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics at the University of Patras, Greece. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from October 2015 to present. He was elected Director of the Division of Design & Manufacturing from 2015 to 2017. He is elected Deputy Head of the Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics Department, University of Patras since December 2017 to present. He is teaching the following 6 undergraduate courses: Mechanical Drawing and Machine-Shop Training I and II, Manufacturing Processes and Laboratory I and II, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), Introduction to Manufacturing Systems, Manufacturing Processes and Systems for Aerospace Structures and Non-Conventional Manufacturing Processes. In addition, he is teaching the following 3 postgraduate courses: Advanced Manufacturing Processes, Advanced Topics on Manufacturing Systems, and Advanced Topics on Machine Tools and Automation. He has been coordinator of 4 Teaching Factories (New Training Methods for engineers) the past 4 years, dealing with the education and training of students in close cooperation with the industry and vice versa.
He has also a demonstrable experience on international teaching as a Scientific Coordinator and Instructor. In particular, he is selected as a faculty liaison on behalf of the University of Patras in the iPodia courses since 2016, attended by the University of Technion, the University of Aachen, the University of South California (USC), the Peking University (PKU), the National Taiwan University (NTU), the Korea Advances Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), during which he has performed 3 invited lectures related to Flexibility and Industry 4.0 paradigm and its impact on future technology innovation. Additionally, he has been Scientific Coordinator of 2 summer courses in cooperation with BEST (Board of European Students of Technology). His main research interests are focused on the field of Design, Planning, and Control of Manufacturing Systems and Networks, Advanced Manufacturing Processes Modelling and Automation in Manufacturing, Flexibility and Complexity in Manufacturing Systems. He is also actively involved in Digital Transformation and Implementation of Industry 4.0 practices. His research work has been awarded the Burbidge Best Paper Award at APMS 2012 (International Conference on Advances in Production Management Systems) sponsored by IFIP. He is an elected Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), a member of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) – TC5.2 – Manufacturing Modelling for Management and Control since 2005, an Education Liaison of IFAC TC5.2, member of the International Federation of Information Processing IFIP WG 5.7 – Advances in Production Management Systems, member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the coordinator of the Greek Manufuture Network GMN. He is a member of the European Factories of the Future Association – EFFRA and also a member of the European Manufacturing and Innovation Research Association (EMIRACLE). He is also a member of the European Aeronautics Science Network / Association EASN and SME. He is a member of the Research Promotion Foundations’ (RPF) Innovation and Research Information Systems (IRIS). Finally, he is a member of Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), and of the Scientific Committee of the Panhellenic Association of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers. He is a reviewer for 50 International Journals and a large number of International Conferences, and guest editor in 7 international scientific journals. He has organized and chaired 14 international scientific conferences and has been a member of international organizing and program committees (IPC) 78 times in international scientific conferences. He has been involved in more than 21 RTD projects funded by the European Commission – EC, acting as Project Manager and Co-Principal Investigator and as Technical Manager for the Laboratory of Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS). He has given more than 71 scientific presentations and invited keynote talks in international forums organized by the EC, CIRP General Assembly Meetings (Scientific Technical Committees). He has been invited as a manufacturing field expert in several projects such as; Action Plant (2011), TAMS4CPS (2015 and 2016) and FUTURING (2017). He has been a member of a Ph.D. Three Member Supervisory Committee 18 times, in 6 of as a Supervisor (6 completed, 1 concluding soon), and of a Ph.D. Seven Member Examining Committee 15 times. In addition, he is a member of the International Committee of 2 PhDs (1 completed, 1 concluding soon) in collaboration with the Università Degli Studi Dell’Insubria and the Ecole Centrale de Nantes. He has been a member of MSc Thesis Supervisory Committee 18 times, in 10 of which as a Supervisor. He has supervised 77 Diploma Thesis and Projects, most of which were carried out in cooperation with industry on issues related to the design, planning, and operation of production systems and networks. He has more than 200 publications (73 publications in international refereed scientific journals, 20 chapters in books, 5 editorials, 2 white papers, and 101 publications in conference proceedings with review in the full paper) reaching a total number of unique citations that exceeds 3.000, for a total of 185 publications (according to Scopus databases, ISI Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar).
